ABOUT OUR SUMMER BIKE CAMP

Fun Is the Name of the Game

Located in Kanata, Ontario, Bakkers Trailblazers summer bike camp welcomes campers aged 5 - 13. Parents can rest assured that their kids are under the supervision of caring and trained counselors. Our instructors are personally trained by former mountain bike professional and PMBIA certified coach Osmond Bakker.

We teach kids how to bike in a safe and progressive manner using the lens of mountain biking. Kids are placed into one of our 5 ability groups, learning the fundamentals of biking including balance, braking, descending, and cornering. Over 10 years, we have found kids thrive with our program to become a better cyclists.

Every camper at Bakkers Trailblazers will have an amazing and fun experience developing bike skills.  If your child is under 5, but proficient at biking, let us know and we will assess their eligibility.

CAMPERS CHECKLIST

Before sending your child to the first day of MTB camp, please read through the following checklist:

  1. Please ensure bicycle is in good running order (chain is lubed, tires are inflated and not overly worn, brakes are safe and effective). Click here to see a short video on a pre-camp bike check.

  2. Pack a bag with the following:

    • A spare inner tube of the correct size for the bicycles tires

    • Spare warm clothing and a towel (in case of rain). Store clothes in a waterproof bag or backpack with the child's name clearly identifiable. Bags will be placed in our storage pod.

    • Bug spray (an essential item for biking in the woods, please ensure your child is able to spray it on themselves for reapplication.)

    • Sunblock

    • Snacks that are easy to carry while riding.

    • A hat

    • A raincoat

  3. Hydration pack: The campers are out riding all day and need to stay hydrated, the hydration packs carry a lot of liquid and can also carry snacks, spare tubes, and money (if needed). Hydration packs are less tiring to ride with compared to backpacks. We have a place to refill hydration packs at camp, but please fill the pack every morning and ensure your child is aware of how to open/close their pack. Just buy the most budget friendly one you can find.

  4. Helmet and shoes (must be closed toed, not sandals nor flip-flops), protective (or sun) glasses.

  5. Hand sanitizer

  6. A bell installed on the bike that functions.

  7. A lunch daily

  8. Please make an ID card containing a contact name and number, and place in a waterproof bag within their hydration pack.

  9. Please email us back at osmond.bakker@gmail.com to let me know the skill level of your child, on a scale of beginner, moderate or advanced, or on our ability group scale. If you are unsure of their skill level, you may also detail the trails they have been on and we will be able to pinpoint their ability in reference to other campers.
